While in Puerto Rico getting inspired for Fall 2o11 and scouting coop factories to manufacture Spring 2011, there has been plenty of time during my many drives all over the island to do some serious thinking about longevity.
Yes, as I am getting ready to design yet another collection of brand new clothes, the challenge and the internal struggle starts all over again. While I love to design and create, creating no matter how sustainable is in fact the birth of newness. The word new really goes hand in hand with the word consume more often than not. One can really go crazy if you start thinking about all the things you consume and can’t change. However, I try to assimilate what I can change, plan alternatives for what I can’t and just keep on trying to make the best of it.
The thing is, I have never been able to find winter clothes that I actually enjoy wearing. For my Caribbean self; the thought of layering on thick fabric and not feeling the sun on my skin for months at a time, it’s a little heartbreaking… The real challenge for Fall 2011 is designing a collection for cold weather that will have longevity in one’s closet but wont be boring. Urban tropical all the way through the many winters ahead of me in New York City.
To this dilema I ask:
What cold weather pieces you wish existed but you haven’t seen?

Just as I was pondering all of these questions, my friend Tara from Study NY was asking similar questions (way more eloquently than me) to the readers on her blog. Everytime I feel a little stressed out by the struggles and dilemas of actually having a concience, Tara’s blog seems to have some good insight on the subject. In an effort to contribute to the discussion on the subject here is her post to0: How fast is your Fashion?
