Auralís nurtures her talents amidst strong, charismatic women. I have met some of these women and watched them labor over a sewing machine to help Aura launch the line. Our studio living space constantly vibrates with women’s chatter and laughter. Interns, the lovely PR sisters, models, textile designers, textile printers, DJ’s—all women. We know the power of women in packs. We are it. And so is PeaceKeeper Cause-metics, one of our product sponsors. They are all about women all over the world, and specifically about using their product to help empower women who are victims of human rights abuse across the globe.
When we reached out to companies for product sponsors, we were very selective and careful about whom we wanted to feature. We only went with companies we could fully support. With PeaceKeeper Cause-metics, it was love at first sight. PeaceKeeper Cause-metics are truly a one of a kind in the cosmetic industry. They are an All-Benefit Company, which means that they do not keep a cent of their profits. Instead, all their profits go toward charities that help women living in impoverished situations, in exploitation or servitude. When I heard and read about them, I could not help but reach out to them.
See, in my personal life, and in my work researching gender issues in Latin America and the United States, I have grown concerned and disillusioned with the treatment women receive around the world, and yes, even in my own home. I interviewed a woman in Cuba who had been tortured and raped because of her political convictions during Batista’s regime in the 1930s; I met an immigrant in Madison, Wisconsin, circa 2004, who feared leaving her abusive husband because he threatened to have her deported and take her daughters away. Then, now, here, there, women’s abuses pervade; something has to be done to stop it. PeaceKeeper cause-metics is doing more than their part to eradicate this global social disease.
PeaceKeeper Cause-metics beautify the world in more ways than one. Their cosmetics make my mouth water. Enviromentally safe nail polishes; Natural lip paints, glosses and balms; and a vegan nail polish remover that actually works! Their cosmetics are good for you, good for women, and good for their environment.
